Mindfulness meditation retreats are opportunities to refresh and deepen your personal mindfulness practice. Most of the retreat time is spent engaged in silent sitting and walking practice. Melissa offers daily talks and individual meetings. Towards the end of the retreat there are periods of guided interpersonal inquiry and dialogue to explore the connection between personal meditation practice and daily life and work. Melissa brings her experience in both mindfulness-based interventions and the Zen tradition to teaching retreats.
Although these retreats are not traditional Zen retreats (sesshin) they are influenced by Zen practice and teachings. Melissa is committed to guiding retreat attendees to waking up to life, and her compassion and sense of humor help to create an atmosphere of deep practice that is essential for encountering the true nature of the heart-mind. Retreats of any length and number of days may be scheduled for people with various degrees of experience in meditation, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Melissa often co-leads with or is assisted by other experienced meditation teachers, primarily her husband, David Dae An Rynick, Roshi.
